Who Can Take SSSTS Training Online?

The SSSTS Training Online is designed for people who have, or are preparing to take on, supervisory responsibilities within the construction industry.

The CITB Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) provides practical knowledge about health and safety, legal responsibilities and effective site supervision, and can be particularly useful for workers progressing into supervisory positions, as well as those who already have responsibility for overseeing teams and activities on construction sites.

But who’s actually eligible to take the course?

Who is Suitable for SSSTS Training Online?

The course is aimed primarily at construction workers who supervise, or are expected to supervise, other members of a site team. This could include people working in roles such as:

  • Site supervisors
  • Forepersons
  • Team leaders
  • Chargehands
  • Experienced tradespeople moving into supervision
  • Workers preparing for their first supervisory position

You don’t need to have held a formal supervisor job before enrolling. It can also be suitable for experienced workers who are being given additional responsibilities, and want to develop their knowledge before taking on a supervisory role.

What Experience Do You Need?

There are no formal entry requirements. You don’t need to hold a particular qualification before starting. However, the course is intended for people working towards, or already carrying out, supervisory duties. Having some construction industry experience can therefore make the content easier to understand and apply in a real workplace.

The training covers subjects including health and safety legislation, risk assessments, method statements, control measures, and the responsibilities of supervisors.

Can Beginners Take SSSTS Training Online?

Although there are no formal prerequisites, you should consider whether the course is appropriate for your current level of experience.

The content is focused on supervising construction activities, rather than introducing someone to construction work from scratch. Someone with practical site experience who is progressing towards supervision is likely to get more value from the training than someone with no construction background at all.

Is SSSTS Training Online Suitable for Existing Supervisors?

The course can be suitable for people who are already working as supervisors but have not yet completed this particular qualification.

It provides structured training around the responsibilities associated with supervising health and safety on construction sites.

Those who already hold a valid certificate should also be aware of the refresher requirements. The qualification is valid for five years, and before it expires, you can take the SSSTS Refresher course to renew. It’s important to do so with plenty of time before the expiry date, otherwise you’ll need to take the full SSSTS course again (if you intend to remain certified).

Conclusion: Who Can Take SSSTS Training Online?

The Site Supervision course can be taken by construction workers who already supervise teams, those preparing to move into supervisory positions, and experienced workers whose responsibilities are expanding.

There are no formal entry requirements, although some construction experience is recommended because of the practical and supervisory focus of the course.

For anyone progressing from a trade role into site supervision, the training can provide important knowledge about managing health and safety responsibilities, and supporting safer working practices.
