For many people working on construction sites, holding the appropriate card is an important part of demonstrating their competence to employers and principal contractors.
A CSCS card is a form of certification, rather than a training course. The qualification or training you need will depend on the card you’re applying for.
What the CITB Does
The CITB has an important role in supporting skills development within the UK construction industry, including funding, training and apprenticeships. They also operate a number of well-known construction training schemes. For example, the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) and Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) are both courses commonly taken by construction professionals with supervisory or management responsibilities.
The courses contribute towards developing the knowledge and skills required for particular construction roles, but completing a CITB course does not mean that you’ve automatically received a CSCS card.
