Is SMSTS Harder than SSSTS?

The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is more comprehensive and covers greater management responsibilities, so it can generally be considered more demanding than the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS). However, neither course is designed to be unnecessarily difficult, and your experience and familiarity with construction health and safety will influence how challenging you find the courses.

SMSTS

What is the Difference Between the Two Courses?

SSSTS is aimed primarily at people who have- or will have- supervisory responsibilities on construction sites. It focuses on helping supervisors understand their legal responsibilities, and contribute to effective health and safety management.

SMSTS is intended for site managers, and those with greater responsibility for managing construction activities. It covers a broader range of management duties, legislation, risk management, and health and safety considerations.

Why is SMSTS More Comprehensive?

The Site Management training goes into more depth because site managers generally have more extensive legal and operational responsibilities than site supervisors. The course examines how managers should plan, monitor, and control construction work while maintaining appropriate health and safety standards.

There is more information to understand and apply compared with SSSTS. However, the course is structured to help learners develop this knowledge, rather than assuming they already have an advanced understanding of construction management.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SMSTS Harder than SSSTS?

The Site Management Safety Training Scheme can generally be considered more challenging than the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme because it covers a broader range of topics and is aimed at professionals with greater management responsibilities. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s difficult to pass. The level of challenge depends on your existing construction experience, familiarity with health and safety requirements, and how effectively you engage with the course.
