Achieving a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) has long been the gold standard for proving your capabilities on-site, but the online assessment process doesn’t suit everyone. At CST Training, we now offer a comprehensive Site Visit option for our Construction NVQs.

For an additional fee, one of our fully qualified, highly experienced industry assessors will travel directly to your workplace. They’ll step onto your site and carry out a large portion of the assessment process in-person.

Rather than having to document and upload all your evidence online, an assessor will observe you carrying out your day-to-day work duties in real-time, validating your skills under real operational conditions. This can reduce the volume of evidence that you need to compile, track, and submit yourself.

What Happens During a Site Visit?

Your assessor’s sole goal is to help you prove your existing competence safely and accurately. During the visit, your assessor will quietly shadow you as you carry out your normal, everyday job role. They may also review relevant workplace documents where appropriate- such as risk assessments, daily logs, induction forms, or site drawings- to verify that you’re working in full compliance with project specifications and UK health and safety legislation.

Finalising Your Portfolio for Construction NVQs

In most cases, you will still need to upload some evidence, but you will typically need to upload far less evidence than candidates completing the assessment entirely online. The physical visit allows the assessor to tick off a lot of the practical observation criteria, performance standards, and real-time operational competencies. However, every NVQ consists of distinct units, some of which require knowledge-based evidence that can’t be fully captured via visual observation alone.

Following the conclusion of the workplace visit, your assessor will typically provide you with a breakdown of any additional evidence that is still required to complete your portfolio. This might include uploading specific mandatory industry certifications, providing copies of structural drawings you worked from, or answering a few remaining written knowledge questions.

Because the bulk of the heavy lifting was completed in-person, finishing these final components becomes a straightforward, stress-free exercise, rather than an overwhelming administrative hurdle.
