SMSTS & SSSTS: What’s The Difference?

CST Training offers a wide range of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), but we also offer training schemes with CITB. These include CITB SMSTS and CITB SSSTS. The following blog will outline the differences between the Site Management Safety Training Scheme & the Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme.

CITB SMSTS & SSSTS: What is the Site Management Safety Training Scheme?

The Site Management Safety Training Scheme is largely aimed at site managers. Do you currently have responsibilities regarding planning, organising, monitoring, controlling, and administering staff, or are you considering such a role? Then the SMSTS is for you.

The Site Management Safety Training Scheme is quite extensive. The training scheme covers all legislation pertaining to safe working in the building, construction, and civil engineering industries. The main focus of the scheme is to highlight the need for risk assessment within the workplace. Also highlighted is the implementation of the required control measures, as well as necessary communication for sustained health and safety.

Once you’ve completed the course, you’ll be able to implement all health, safety, welfare & environmental legislation that affects your work. Secondly, you’ll be implementing all new guidance and industry best practices. Thirdly, you’ll be able to state your responsibilities and duties when it comes to health, safety, welfare, and the environment.

Certification is valid for five years upon completion. To remain certified, you’ll need to take the SMSTS-R (Site Management Safety Training Scheme Refresher).

CITB SMSTS & SSSTS: What is the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme?

If you currently have supervisory responsibilities or you’re considering such a role, the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme is for you.

Once you’ve completed the course, you’ll have an understanding of all the fundamentals of site supervision. These include all laws pertaining to health and safety, specifically the laws that apply to supervisors. You’ll also have an understanding of all supervisory responsibilities when it comes to controlling the safety of a site.

As well as this, you’ll understand risk assessments, the need for method statements, site inductions, toolbox talks, & method statement briefings. You’ll be competent in monitoring activities on sites, and in intervening once you’ve identified bad practice.

Once you’ve completed the course, your certification will be valid for five years. You’ll then need to take the SSSTS-R (Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme Refresher).
