Site Safety Plus CITB Explained

Included in our range of courses are the CITB Site Safety Plus (SSP) courses. These courses are intended to provide those in the construction industry with both health and safety awareness and career development. The main goal of these courses is to maintain a safe work environment, and a safe workforce.

Today’s blog will tell you everything you might need to know about our CITB Site Safety Plus courses.

What is SSP?

Run by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), the Site Safety Plus Scheme covers a number of health & safety courses. They’ve been developed specifically for the construction industry. This means that if you complete one of these courses, the information will be specific to your workplace and role.

We offer a number of Site Safety Plus courses here at CST Training. These include the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) and the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS). The time it takes to complete these courses will vary depending on which course you choose.

As well as the SMSTS and the SSSTS, which we’ll cover in more detail shortly, we also offer other courses. For people looking to begin their career in construction, we offer the HSA (Health and Safety Awareness) Level 1 Award. This course is ideal for those looking to gain their Green CSCS Card. Another SSP course we offer is the Temporary Works Supervisor and Coordinator course.

Who is Site Safety Plus Aimed At?

These courses aren’t aimed at any one type of employee in particular. They’re more so aimed at the entire industry, because anyone can benefit from additional health and safety training. It doesn’t matter where you’re at in your career. From operatives to senior management, the Site Safety Plus courses can be largely beneficial. There aren’t exactly any downsides to health & safety and career development!

Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) with CST Training

The industry-recognised SMSTS is designed to provide the skills required to fulfil the regulatory standards for health & safety enforcement. If you’re in charge of, tracking, preparing, or managing groups of workers, this scheme will be most beneficial to you.

Emphasised in this course is the importance of risk management in the workplace. Also covered is the control measures and communication required for maintaining a satisfactory health and safety culture in the workplace.

By the time you’ve completed the Site Management Safety Training Scheme, you will be competent in the following areas:

  • Implementing best practices and new guidelines in the field.
  • Implementing all legislation that pertains to your everyday work.
  • Describing your roles and tasks when it comes to health, security, protection, and the environment.

Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) with CST Training

Aimed at site supervisors or those aspiring to be supervisors, the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme is recognised globally. Multiple major contractor companies require their managers to have this certification. For that reason, thousands of people complete the SSSTS every year. It essentially serves as the basic training for all supervisors in the United Kingdom.

The training scheme highlights the importance of improving your safety skills to prevent injuries and accidents. Large numbers of workers are killed at work each year. All businesses must ensure they’re operating a site that poses the least amount of risk possible to their workers.

Regardless of the size of your workforce, supervisors must be clued up on all facets of site health and safety. That’s why the SSSTS is so vital.
