They’re designed to provide people in the construction industry with health & safety awareness, and career development. With Site Safety Plus training under your belt, you’ll be contributing to a safer work environment. In today’s blog, we’ll be outlining all of the CITB Site Safety Plus courses on offer here at CST Training. We’ll also be breaking down what makes each course so beneficial.

CITB Site Safety Plus Explained

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) runs the SSP scheme specifically for people in the construction industry. The courses covered by the scheme include the Site Management Safety Training Scheme, the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme, Temporary Works Supervisor & Temporary Works Coordinator, and Health & Safety Awareness.

Site Safety Plus Courses: Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)

The SMSTS is an industry recognised scheme designed to provide you with the means to meet regulatory H&S standards. It’s a scheme aimed at those in charge of, tracking, preparing, or managing groups of workers. There are a number of components to the course, including the importance of risk management within the workplace. Also covered is the control measures and communication for maintaining a satisfactory H&S culture within the workplace.

The SMSTS is ideal if you’re looking to move up the management ladder.

Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)

The SSSTS is aimed at site supervisors or those looking to be supervisors. A number of major contractor companies require their managers to have this qualification. It serves as basic training for all supervisors within the UK, but is recognised globally.

By taking this course you’ll be clued up on all facets of site health & safety. For that reason, the SSSTS is not only beneficial to your peace of mind, but also to your career development.

Site Safety Plus Courses: Temporary Works Supervisor

The Temporary Works Supervisor course is a one-day course aimed at those who have been responsible for temporary works. The training provides thorough knowledge of the role and an in-depth understanding of the risk management involved. The course is fully remote, so you can complete it wherever you’d like.

Temporary Works Coordinator

The Temporary Works Coordinator course, on the other hand, is a two-day course. It’s designed to provide Senior Management with confidence, as well as those who engage with contractors. If you’re responsible for managing all forms of temporary works, this course will likely be for you.

For both the Temporary Works Supervisor and Coordinator course, you’ll receive a renewable 5-year Site Safety Plus certificate.

Health and Safety Awareness (HSA)

The Health and Safety Awareness course provides you with an understanding of all relevant health and safety laws. Once you’ve completed the course, you’ll know all there is to know about risk assessment, hazard identification, and method statements.

No time off is needed to complete the HSA. You can complete this course in just one day. One of the other benefits to completing HSA is that it makes you eligible for a CSCS Green Card.

With the HSA under your belt, you’ll also likely be far more focussed, and your morale will be boosted.
